Hi guys, I just found out about this forum and I immediately had to register Razz
It's nice to see that people are trying to form a community for this great game, I hope this place stays for some time.

Anyway, back to topic:
During my search for some Ignition related (mod)tools I stumbled upon this interesting tool that seemst to convert Ignition's .pic texture files to .tga files, check it out -> https://github.com/Kazade/Ignition-Tools

edit: I managed to compile it, I had to change 3 lines to make it work though (changed code is included, compare it if you want) -> http://www.mediafire.com/?lhca4uyawo627fi
I also added a .bat script which not only shows how to use the program (its command line based) but also converts all the .pic files from the root game directoy of the abandonmania ignition version, just put the pic2tga.exe and pic2tga.bat in the same folder and run the pic2tga.bat

If you don't trust me run it through something like virustotal or simply don't download it.

Woah, thanks! That makes it closer to be able to mod the game... If the models are worked out aswell there could be car mods... I'll give this a try as soon as I have the time to (it's midnight right now for me)

Yeah there are. The thing is it's a pain to convert them to readable file types, because they aren't conventional types. If we do that then we could texture or even properly mod ignition! That'd mean lots of things. New car paintjobs, maybe even whole new cars or tracks. Even if models won't be able to be accessed, textures would mean custom HUDs, for example. There are lots of things which even simpler modding could do.

Okay, it works! Here's what I found:

h_pan1.pic is the HUD's static objects, and the little car pictures that show on Pursue Mode.
h_pan2.pic is the Pursue Mode "road", the gear shifter, some traffic signs from the HUD, two black semi-circles and a yellow arrow.
h_signs.pic is a set of all the traffic signs.
There are more HUD items here, like the trophies. H_something means high quality, N means normal and S means low quality.

(Hey, I think I'll crop some and use them to personalize the forum, make it more Ignition-ey.)

BALTAZAR: Only flaggor was converted, containing the language buttons from startup.

EDIT: XnView claims to be able to read .pic files, but it won't do the job

Yes, I tried lots of programs claiming to do that. Not only did they not work, they also tried to install LOTS of other stuff! If I weren't to uncheck so many boxes then I'd have already doubled my program count.

But this pic to tga converter works and that is great!

Well only because the file extension is called ".pic" and programs claim to be able to open ".pic" files doesn't mean that they are able to do so.

Most of Ignition's content were made in a custom format so unless we get some tools the developers used to create them back then there is probably no chance that we will ever be able to customize the game.
